Soon it’s going to be a year since I started life in lockdown. In retrospective, I believe that 2020 was a period of learning, experimenting, re-discovering myself, re-evaluating my emotions and feelings, becoming at ease with past experiences, and most of all, discovering and deciding what I want to do next going forward.

Having time for self-reflection, introspection, walks in solitude close to nature, and observations of past experiences added perspective to what I was experiencing in a world where humankind was exposed as fragile.

Perhaps this process of examination would have, indeed, happened at some point. …

A Machine Learning (ML)algorithm that predicts suicide attempt can save lives, give a second chance to reconsider the decision, and time to ask for help. Artificial Intelligence (AI) now is able to predict suicide attempt risk.

Artificial Intelligence’s deployment is once again helping healthcare by achieving a demonstrated utility within suicide prediction and clinical management of patients at high risk.

It is impossible to know if those who committed suicide would have changed their mind. If something had predicted their suicide attempt, perhaps.

Many, though, have survived the suicidal thoughts and the attempt. After receiving help, treatment, and being fully…

Drinking a strong cup of coffee half an hour before exercising increases fat-burning, accelerating weight-loss. Who would have known?

A strong coffee first thing early in the morning followed by a workout session or a half an hour run is a great way to kick-start the day. Drinking a strong coffee — which contains about 3 mg/kg of caffeine — half an hour before aerobic exercise significantly increases the rate of fat-burning. At least, this is what scientists from the Department of Physiology of the University of Granada (UGR) have shown in their study.

In addition, the researchers have also…

How and why bullying occurs? Teens may be more likely to be bullied by their friends — and friends-of-friends — than by classmates they don’t know as well.

Bullying has affected children and teenagers for generations. However, it has only been recently that the long-term effects caused by bullying in mental health have been understood. There is plenty of evidence that shows how bullying can lead to depression and suicidal thoughts.

High school students subjected to bullying and other common forms of harassment are more likely to report being seriously depressed. Unfortunately, most cases go unreported, resulting in even more…

A humble homage to express gratitude to all the postmen and postwomen who have safely delivered all my parcels during the difficult times in lockdown.

Disregarding the weather, disregarding the level of risk out there, you have brought down to my door all what I could possibly need. Without you all, that would have been impossible. Thank you so very much, Mr Postman/Ms Postwoman!

I have spent now over a year in lockdown. I have been isolating myself for my protection and everyone’s protection; living in my auto-imposed house arrest, working in front of a window.

From my window, I…

In order to stay on top of the game, industry leaders must know how to maximize Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to expand their business.

The process of automating dull activities to help humans spend their time working on more meaningful tasks to be more productive is taking over the world at the speed of light.

The healthcare and pharmaceutical industries are rapidly embracing this change. In order to stay on top of the game, industry leaders must know how to maximize Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to expand their business.

It is well known that the popularity of Robotic Process Automation…

The University of Exeter explores the future potential for computer systems by using photonics in place of conventional electronics.

Photonics, the science of generating, controlling, and detecting light, is now playing a paramount role in the future of Artificial Intelligence and Neuromorphic Computing. Just in the same way that the 20th century depended on the electron to witness advances in electronics and electricity, the 21st century relies on the photon to propel many scientific breakthroughs in different fields.

Photonics play an important role driving innovation in an increasing number of fields. The application of photonics spreads across several sectors: From…

The theories of Planetary Formation will never be the same.

ESA’s exoplanet mission, Cheops, revealed a unique planetary system in which five of its six exoplanets are locked in a rare rhythmic dance as they orbit their central star. The sizes and masses of the planets, however, don’t follow such an orderly pattern, challenging current theories of Planet Formation.

Scientists rely on the discovery of increasing numbers of planetary systems to continue to improve the understanding of how planets form and evolve. Although none of the planetary systems discovered so far is like our Solar System.

A striking example is…

The year 2020 will be known in history as the year when the whole planet Earth’s inhabitants spent more time staying at home than any other year, fighting the pandemic caused by Covid-19. Almost a month into 2021, new vaccines developed in a fraction of the time it normally takes bring new hopes.

Slowly, as the world starts to recover, promising fresh initiatives arise in the horizon almost as if they were coming out from a lethargic extended dream.

As…

Mercedes-Benz unveiled the MBUX Hyperscreen at the all-virtual CES 2021.

Visually impressive. Easy to operate. Onboard AI assistant eager to learn. The MBUX Hyperscreen is one of the highlights in the EQS. It represents the emotional intelligence of the all-electric upper-class model. The large, curved screen unit stretches almost the entire width from the left to the right A-pillar.

The new MBUX generation with intelligent new features such as Mercedes Travel Knowledge, instantly makes you feel you have travelled into the future. Or, into the science fiction past; and that you have met K.I.T.T., …
